        Charles Beesley married Susan James in St. Peter, Hereford, England, on 1 Jan 1866.  Their only child, Charles Frederick Beesley was born on 16 Jul 1867, Hereford, Herdfordshire, England, UK.  By the time of the 1871 Census, Charles was no longer living with his wife and son.

        At the time of the 1851 Census, Susan was 8 years old, and living at 114 Cabbage Lane, St. Peter, Hereford, Herefordshire, England (Class: HO107; Piece: 1978; Folio: 204; Page: 27; GSU roll: 87379), with her Father, William, 29 years old (b 1822, St Peters, Herefordshire, England), and a bootmaker, her Mother, Ann, 32 years old (b 1819, Abbey Dore, Herefordshire, England), and a shoe binder, her sister, Mary (11), and her brother, William (5).

        At the time of the 1861 Census, Susan was 17 years old, and living on Commercial Street, Trinity Hospital No. 8, St. Peter, Hereford, Herefordshire, England (Class: RG9; Piece: 1819; Folio: 92; Page: 37; GSU roll: 542873), with her grandmother, Susan James, 77 years old (b 1788, Eardisley, Herefordshire, England), almswoman (formerly fruiterer).

        At the time of the 1871 Census, Susan was 27 years old, a fruiterer, and living at 41 Church Street, St. John, Hereford, Herefordshire, England (Class: RG10; Piece: 2699; Folio: 62; Page: 43; GSU roll: 835344) with her son, Charley Besley (3), her sister, Ann Allsop (30); her brother-in-law, Francis Allsop (29), salesman; her niece, Martha Allsop (10); and her nephews: William (3), and Henry Allsop (7 months). Living next door to them, at 42 Church Street, were Susan's Mother, Ann James (50), greengrocer; her brothers: George James (19), printer & compositor; Charles James (16), Jesse James (14), telegraph messenger; her sister, Kate James (9); her nephews: Francis (8) and George Allsop (6); and her niece, Anne Allsop (4).

DEATH: Susan died in Dec 1875 in Hereford, Herefordshire, England, UK, at the age of 33.

        At the time of the 1871 Census, Charles (listed as Charley Besley) was three years old, and living at 41 Church Street, St. John, Hereford, Herefordshire, England (Class: RG10; Piece: 2699; Folio: 62; Page: 43; GSU roll: 835344) with his Mother, Susan (27), a fruiterer, his Aunt, Ann Allsop (30); his Uncle, Francis Allsop (29), salesman; and his cousins: Martha Allsop (10), William Allsop (3), and Henry Allsop (7 months). Living next door to them, at 42 Church Street, were Charles' grandmother, Ann James (50), a greengrocer; his Uncles: George James (19), a printer & compositor; Charles James (16), a tinman (?); Jesse James (14), a telegraph messenger; his Aunt, Kate James (9); and his cousins: Francis Allsop (8), George Allsop (6), and Anne Allsop (4).

        At the time of the 1881 Census, Charles was 13 years old, and living at 42 Lower Church Street, St. Peter, Hereford, Herefordshire, England (Class: RG11; Piece: 2595; Folio: 27; Page: 48; GSU roll: 1341625), with his grandmother, Ann James (63), a greengrocer.

Grace Penhaligon

        Charles married Grace Penhaligon September 1890, in the Holborn District, London, England.  At the time of the 1891 British Census, he was 23 years old, a Printer - Compositor, and living at 295 Compton Buildings, in the St. Peters, Clerkenwell Parish of London, England (Source: RG12/222; District 2a; Page: 37), with his wife, Grace (24).

        In 1892, at the age of 24, Charles traveled to the United States, to work for the New York World Newspaper, in New York City.  He departed from Queenstown, Cork, Munster, Ireland, on the S.S. Wisconsin, and arrived in New York, on 19 May 1892.

        At the time of the 1901 British Census, Charles was 34, a compositor (print), and living with his wife, Grace Beesley (35), their son Frederick Charles (7), their daughters, Bessie (9), and Florence May (5), his sister-in-law, Elizabeth Ann (listed as Ann Elizabeth) (40), and her husband John William Babb (45), a wheelwright. They lived at 11 Benyon Road, London, St. Andrews (Source: RG13/227; District 28; Page: 33).

        Charles and Grace had five children: Bessie Lilian (b 30 Aug 1891, d 16 Aug 1949), Frederick Charles (b 28 Mar 1894, d 25 Nov 1973), Florence May (b 1896, d 18 May 1961), Robert William (b Apr 1901, d 18 Aug 1901), and William Robert (b 1904, d 23 Mar 1909).

        Charles and Grace's last address in London was 128 Compton Buildings, Goswell Square.

DEATH: Charles died at the age of 75, on 26 Sep 1942, at the Central Home, Leytonstone.

BURIAL: Charles was buried on 2 Oct 1942, in Manor Park Cemetery, London, England, Square 46, Grave 3.  The undertaker was T. Osborn & Sons, and the minister was H. Gardiner.  The estate was handled by Freeman and Cooke, 33 Bedford Place, Russell Square WC1.
