BIOGRAPHY:  

        Charles' Father, Charles Bogaert, had died before the 1880 census. At that time, Charles was 2, and living with his Grandparents, George (44) and Lucy (40), his Mother, Rose Bogaert (19), working in a spoon shop, and Rose's siblings, Octave (16), working in a ring shop, Mary (7), and Emile (4). They lived at 4 Meadow Lane, Waterbury, New Haven County, CT (Series: T9; Roll: 103; Page: 197; District: 42). 

        At the time of the 1900 Census, Charles was 23 years old, a toolmaker, and living [along with his Mother, Rose (39 and a laborer in a brass factory)] with his Aunt, Mary Petitjean Kelson (29), head of household; her daughter, Edna L. (5); and his Uncle, Emile (24), a toolmaker; and living at 145 South Main Street, Waterbury, New Haven County, CT (4-WD - Series: T623; Roll: 148; Page: 181; District: 433). There were also two lodgers: Charles Buetin, b Feb 1870, in Germany (arrived 1896), a toolmaker; and John Shugrue, b May 1870 in CT, a laborer at the brass factory.

        Charles married Margaret Mullen on 23 Apr 1902.  At the time of the 1910 Census, he was 32 years old, a foreman in a tool making shop, and living at 54 Dover Street, Waterbury, New Haven County, CT (4-WD - Series: T624; Roll: 141; Page: 110; District: 486), with his wife, Margaret (31), who was born in Scotland, arriving in United States in 1881; and his children: Charles (6), and Margaret (3).

        According to the Waterbury, Naugatuck, and Watertown, Connecticut City Directory, 1914, Charles was an assistant foreman at the Scovill Manufacturing Company.  He lived at 54 Dover Street, Waterbury, CT. 

        At the time of the 1920 Census, Charles was 41 years old, a foreman at a brass factory, and living with his wife, Margaret (40), son, Charles Jr. (16) and daughter, Margaret (13), at 27 Laurel Street, Waterbury, New Haven County, CT (
1-WD - Series: T625; Roll: 194; Page: 282District #431 - pg. 32).  His father was listed as having been born in France.

        At the time of the 1930 Census, Charles was 51 years old, a foreman at a metal factory, and living with his wife, Margaret (50), at 27 Laurel Street, Waterbury, New Haven County, CT (
1-WD - Series: T626; Roll: 279; Page: 114; District: 209). His father was listed as having been Belgian.

        In the Waterbury, Naugatuck, and Watertown, Connecticut City Directory, 1932, Charles and his wife, Margaret H., were listed as living at 27 Laurel Street, Waterbury, CT.  Charles was an assistant foreman at the Scovill Manufacturing Company.

        Charles was listed in the Waterbury, Naugatuck, Watertown Directory,1948, as living with wife, Margaret M., at 27 Laurel Street, Waterbury, CT.  His son, Charles Bogaert Jr., a teacher in Greenwich, CT, also lived there.

DEATH: Charles resided in Waterbury at the time of his death at the age of 77, on 30 Dec 1954, in Southington, CT.

BURIAL: Charles is buried at Riverside Cemetery, Waterbury, CT, in a family plot, with his wife, Margaret (1878 - 1956), his son, Charles E. Jr.(1903 - 1972), and his Mother-in-Law, Agnus Mullen (1859 - 1907).

Charles Beck

BIRTH: 18 Sept 1870, Canada

BIOGRAPHY:  

        Charles Beck was listed in the 1900 Census as being married to Maggie (b Sept 1873 in Virginia) and rooming at 289 South Main Street, Waterbury, CT (4-WD - Series: T623; Roll: 148; Page: 144; District: 432).  He was born in Canada (Parents born in Germany) and arrived in the United States in 1892. 

        Charles married Rose Bogaert on 20 Jun 1906.  It was the second marriage for both.  At the time of the 1910 Census, Charles was 39 years old, a foreman at the Brass Factory, and living at 145 South Elm Street, Waterbury, New Haven County, CT (4-WD - Series: T624; Roll: 141; Page: 122; District: 486), with his wife, Rose 47 (?), and her niece, Edna Kelson (15). This census says that he arrived in the USA in 1901 (the next Census says 1877).  Rose and Charles had been married for four years. Their daughter, Ruth Beck, b 29 Nov 1908, had died as an infant, on 5 May 1909.

        The 1910 Census also lists [at 147 South Elm Street, Waterbury, New Haven County, CT (4-WD - Series: T624; Roll: 141; Page: 122; District: 486)] a household of two people: Elizabeth Beck (71), a widow, born in Germany, and her son George (50), b NY, a machinist at the Brass Factory.  They were the Mother and brother of Charles Beck.

        In the Waterbury, Naugatuck, and Watertown, Connecticut City Directory, 1914, Charles J., is listed as residing at 14 Coe Street, Waterbury, CT, and employed as a foreman, at the Shoe Hardware Company.

        At the time of the 1920 Census, Charles J. was 49 years old, a molder(?) and living at 14 Coe Street, Waterbury, New Haven County, CT (
1-WD - Series: T625; Roll: 194; Page: 259; District: 430), with his wife, Rose, who was listed as being 52, but was actually 59. 

        At the time of the 1930 Census, Charles was 58 years old, working at a metal shop, and living at 140 Helton Street, Waterbury, New Haven County, CT (1-WD - Series: T626  Roll: 279  Page: 109 & 110District 209 - pg. 13), with his wife, Rose, who was listed as being 58, but was actually 69. 

        In the Waterbury, Naugatuck, and Watertown, Connecticut City Directory, 1932, 1946, and 1948, Rose and Charles were listed as living at 50 Welton Street, Waterbury, CT.  In 1932, Charles worked at 72 Brown Street.

DEATH: Charles died on 22 Dec 1948, in Waterbury, CT.

BURIAL: Charles is buried in a family plot, with his wife Rose (d 27 Jan 1953); their infant daughter, Ruth Eleanor (d 5 May 1909); his Mother, Elizabeth Beck (b 22 Dec 1831, d 26 Feb 1919); and his brother, George C. Beck (b 11 Aug 1859, d 2 Qct 1913); in Riverside Cemetery, Waterbury, CT.
