BIRTH: 4 OCT 1807, Lepuix-Gy, Territoire-de-Belfort, Franche-Comte, France

BIOGRAPHY:  

        In the 1840 Census, Great Barrington, Berkshire County, MA (Series: M704; Roll: 176; Page: 288), the Louis Parrot (1840 spelling) household consisted of: 1 male and 1 female between the ages of 30 and 40; 4 males between 20 and 30; 1 male and 1 female between 5 and 10; and 1 male and 1 female under 5 years.

        At the time of the 1850 Census, the Lewis Parrit (1850 spelling) household, Norfolk, Litchfield County, CT (Roll: M432_42  Page: 157), included the following: Lewis (49), a collier (one who works with charcoal), born in France, Louise (42) (should have been Mary - probably a mistake), M Polie (?) (16), Lafille (15), John (14), Lucy (13), Lucelia (11), Louisa (9), Theodore (7), Francis (5), Christiane (4 months).  Lucy and Lucelia were probably the same person - Lucy, who would have been 11 at the time.

        Louis was listed as Louis Parrot, in the marriage record of his daughter, Lucy (listed as Lucine Parrot), to George Littlejohn, on 25 Nov 1859, in Great Barrington, MA. Louis and his wife lived in Norfolk, CT. 

        At the time of the 1860 Census, Norfolk, Litchfield County, CT (Series: M653; Roll: 82; Page: 831), the Louis Parrott (1860 spelling) household included the following:  Louis (55), farmer, born in France, wife Mary (50), born in France, Francis (17), Theodore (19), Louisč (16), Victoria (14), Elizabeth (10), Mary (9).  All of the children were listed as having been born in CT.  The value of their real estate was $2000, and the value of their personal estate was $1000. 

        At the time of the 1870 Census, Canton, Hartford County, CT (Series: M593; Roll: 102; Page: 161), the Louis Parrott (1870 spelling) household included the following: Louis (62), farmer, born in France; wife Mary (60), born in France; Theodore Churchill (30), Rail Road Contractor, b NY; Flora Churchill (20), b CT; Theodore Churchill (3 months), b CT; Constant Brewey (28), farm laborer, b France; Mollie (?) Brewey (24), b France; Albert Benedick (28), farm laborer, b France; Jennie Parrott (11), b MA. 

DEATH: Louis died on17 Aug 1890, in Norfolk, Litchfield, Connecticut.

BIOGRAPHY: 

        In the 1840 Census, Great Barrington, Berkshire County, MA (Series: M704; Roll: 176; Page: 288), the Louis Parrot (1840 spelling) household consisted of 1 male and 1 female between the ages of 30 and 40; 4 males between 20 and 30; 1 male and 1 female between 5 and 10; and 1 male and 1 female under 5 years.

        At the time of the 1860 Census, Norfolk, Litchfield County, CT (
Series: M653; Roll: 82; Page: 831), Mary was 50 years old, born in France, and living with her husband, Louis (55), a farmer, born in France, and their children: Francis (17), Theodore (19), Louisč (16), Victoria (14), Elizabeth (10), and Mary (9). Their name was spelled Parrott.  All of the children were listed as having been born in CT. The value of their real estate was $2000, and the value of their personal estate was $1000.

Brewey (24), b France; Albert Benedick (28), a farm laborer, b France; and Jennie Parrott (11), b MA. 

DEATH: Mary died on 9 Dec 1881, in Norfolk, Connecticut.

Lucille Parret

BIRTH: 5 Oct 1839, Great Barrington, MA

BIOGRAPHY:  

        Lucille would have been the female under 5 (about 1 year old) in the Louis Parrot  household, in the 1840 Census, Great Barrington, Berkshire County, MA (Series: M704; Roll: 176; Page: 288).  At the time of the 1850 Census, the Lewis Parrit (1850 spelling) household, Norfolk, CT (Roll: M432_42  Page: 157), includes a Lucy (age 13) and a Lucclia (age 11).  These were both probably referring to the same person - Lucille, who would have been about 11 years old at the time. Neither of them are in the 1860 Census for the Louis Parrott (the 1860 spelling) household (Norfolk, CT, pg. 41).

        Lucy married George Petitjean on  25 Nov 1859.  He was listed in the marriage record as George Littlejohn. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Lewis Green, rector of The Trinity Church (Episcopalian), in the Van Deusenville (northern) section of Great Barrington, MA. The record states that George resided in Great Barrington, MA, was 27, a laborer, born in France, and that his parents' names were John Baptiste and Rose Littlejohn. Lucy was listed as Lucine Parrot, 20 years old, residing in Norfolk, CT, born in Great Barrington, MA. Her parents were listed as Louis and Mary Parrot. The marriage was recorded in February of 1860. 

        At the time of the 1860 Census, Lucy was 20 years old, and living with her husband, George, 24 years old (listed as George Petit Jean), in Sandisfield, Berkshire County, MA (Series: M653; Roll: 487; Page: 765). George was a collier, as was George Chuelet (?), age 27, who was listed as part of the household. Also living with them were John (25) and Gabriel (39) Stickle, and Frederick Renaud (27), all listed as laborers. All of the men were born in France.  [The following Parret households (possible relatives of Lucy) are also listed in the Sandisfield, MA, 1860 Census: on page 13 - Lule Parrot (23), laborer, wife Adelaide (19), daughter Mary (2), and a male named Layfee (25) all (except Mary), were born in France; on page 14 - Polite Parrot (25), laborer (born in France), wife Sarah (19) and daughter Jennine (1) (both born in MA); on page 23 - Bey (?) F. Paret (32), laborer (born in CT), wife Eenneth (?) (29) (born in NY), and daughter Nellie E. (6) (born in CT)]. 

        At the time of the 1870 Census, Lucy was 30 years old, and living with her husband, George (34) (now listed as George Littlejohn), and their children, Laura (9), Rosa (8), Charles (7), Octave (6), and George (1). All of the children (except George) were born in MA and were attending school. Lucy was unable to read or write. They lived in Goshen, Litchfield County, CT (Series: M593; Roll: 105; Page: 109).

        At the time of the 1880 Census, Lucy was 40 years old, and living with her husband, George (44) (now listed as George Pettyjohn), daughter, Rose Bogaert (19), apparently widowed and working in a spoon shop; grandson, Charles Bogaert (2); and sons, Octave (16), working in a ring shop; George (12), working in a spoon shop; and Emile (4). They lived at 4 Meadow Lane, Waterbury, New Haven County, CT (Series: T9; Roll: 103; Page: 197; District: 42).  

DEATH: Lucy died on 5 Mar 1890, Waterbury CT, of uraemic coma, caused by chronic nephritis (7 days after being operated on by Dr. Francis Bacon for a strangulated hernia). The certificate of death was signed by Dr. Walter H. Holmes. Her address at the time of her death was a two family tenement house, at 4 Pratt Place, Waterbury, CT.

BURIAL: Lucy is buried with her husband, George Petitjean (d 15 April 1894), at the Riverside Cemetery in Waterbury, CT.  The family plot also includes their daughter, Laura (d 1937), their son Octave (d 26 Nov 1920) and his wife, Jennie Terrell Petitjean (d 18 Jul 1933), and Octave and Jennie's granddaughter, Betty Petitjean McHugh (d 8 Dec 1985), daughter of their son Clifford.

 

Christiane Parret

BIRTH: November 1848, in Norfolk, CT.

NICKNAME: Aunt Kish

BIOGRAPHY:

        At the time of the 1850 Census, Norfolk, Litchfield County, CT (Roll: M432_42  Page: 157), the Lewis Parrit (1850 spelling) household includes Christiane, who was listed as being 4 months old.  The others listed were: Lewis (49), a collier, born in France, Louise (42) (should have been Mary - probably a mistake), M Polie (?) (16), Lafille (15), John (14), Lucy (13), Lucelia (11), Louisa (9), Theodore (7), and Francis (5).

        Christina was not listed in the Louis Parrott household in the 1860 Census of Norfolk CT.

        Christina married Joseph Bruey in 1862. Joseph was born in France, in October of 1835, and arrived in the United States in 1853.

        At the time of the 1870 Census, Norfolk, Litchfield County, CT (Series: M593; Roll: 106; Page: 290), Christiana was 20 years old and living with her husband, Joseph (32), a farm laborer; and her daughter, Flora (2).

        At the time of the 1900 Census, Christina was 51 years old, and living on a farm in Norfolk, Litchfield County, CT (Series: T623; Roll: 140; Page: 216; District: 246), with her husband, Joseph (64), a farmer, and her daughter, Rosela (20), a school teacher. Her son, Joseph Jr.(25), was living on a neighboring farm, where he worked, as a farm hand.

        At the time of the 1910 Census, Christina was 62 years old, and living on a farm in Norfolk, Litchfield County, CT (
Series: T624; Roll: 135; Page: 1; District: 265), with her husband, Joseph (73), a farmer, son Joseph L. (35), a farm laborer, her daughter, Rose E. (30), and her son-in-law, Bennette Sorei ? (32), a farm laborer.

        At the time of the 1920 Census, Christine was 71 years old, a widow, and living on the farm, in Norwalk, Litchfield County, CT (Series: T625; Roll: 186; Page: 216; District: 201), with her son, Joseph (45), a farmer. 

        A Petitjean family reunion was held at "Aunt Kish's" Farm in 1929.
