Joseph Moran

BIRTH: 13 Sep 1864 (?), Elphin, Roscommon, Ireland

BIOGRAPHY:

A Joseph Moran was born on 13 Sep 1864 to parents Michael Moran and Julia Flanagan Moran (FamilySearch™), in Elphin, Roscommon, Ireland. That birth date is questionable, because apparently, Joseph Moran married Bridget Owens in 1873, in Elphin. Only two of their children's births are recorded at FamilySearch™ International Genealogical Index: Agnes, b 25 Apr 1875, Strokestown, Roscommon, Ireland; and Delia, b 22 Mar 1878, Moher, Roscommon, Ireland.

Joseph probably first came to the U.S. with his oldest daughters: Agnes, Delia, Mary and Terasia, in about 1898. Their destination was Rhode Island. When Joseph returned to the U.S., via Ellis Island, on 12 Sep 1904 (aboard the S. S. Cedric, out of Queenstown), he was 43 years old, and listed as an American.  He was accompanied by his younger children: Selina (19), Lizzie (16), Rebecca (13), Winifred (12), Margaret (10), Bernard (9), and Annie (7). All of the children were listed as being Irish.

At the time of the 1910 Census, Joseph (47) was a widower, a laborer at the Rubber Mill, and living at 24 River Road, Naugatuck, CT (2-WD - Series: T624: Roll: 137; Page: 68; District: 369), with his daughters: Terasia B. Regan (33, b CT), a clerk in a grocery store, and their daughter, Marie E. (2 months). His daughter, Elizabeth, had married Joseph Brennan, and lived in Brooklyn, NY.
